Registration & titles in Colorado.

Vehicle registration, renewal and ownership Start with the right agency and check its requirements before you travel.

Your county handles the vehicle paperwork.

Colorado generally routes personal vehicle registration and title transactions through the county where you reside. A conveniently located office across a county line may not be able to process your registration.

Renewal or a first registration?

An annual renewal is different from bringing in an out-of-state vehicle, transferring ownership or registering a newly purchased vehicle. The required paperwork can change with the transaction. Start with the official registration instructions and your county’s motor vehicle page.

Check for an online option first.

Some renewals and vehicle services are available through myDMV or participating kiosks. Your renewal notice and official county instructions explain the route available for your vehicle.

An emissions test may be required depending on the vehicle and registration address. Find Colorado emissions testing information →
